I am curious as to how an airshow that ended at 4:30 in the afternoon is a legitimate reason to keep bicycles off of a half-empty train leaving at 10:30 at night.
Very curious indeed.

Just curious what Metra line UP North, Rock Island, Electric?
What type of Bike was this. BMX, Recumbent, Folding, Mountain, Road, etc?
To elaborate a little bit... this was a North line train leaving Ogelvie. My bike's an ordinary road bike. They had 4-5 guys standing by the end of the platform yelling "NO BIKES!" and pointing to an LED marquee sign that said as much. When I asked why, they said, "air show." When I pointed out that the show was over 6 hours ago and the station was pretty much empty, they just pointed to the sign again. My traveling companion reports that the train was only half-full.
Bike friendly they are not
